Certainly an interesting analysis, but other than just straight privileged behavior, I don't know what the point is in the private option so people can skip the line on wait times.
I guess people need to be real and admit, "We're advocating for privileges for rich lucky people who get extra benefits for no reason."
So, other than pleasing entitled people, what's that option for?
Does it somehow benefit a society or just a handful of people who really want to have it better than everyone else?
Like, I get it, I debate brats about this kind of stuff constantly. They just want the Disney Fast Pass to everything, but won't even admit it's just trying to force an unfair situation.
Are the rich people paying for private somehow helping lower premiums for everyone else with the Disney Healthcare Fast Pass?
Cognitive Bias Notebook #010 Series: Equality / The Individualist Void
Subject: The Mereological Fallacy (The Machine is Only Parts Trap)
The Pattern of Behavior: A person uses reductionist science (like the Freestone article) to argue that because the "self" is an illusion, political values like collectivism are also fake or optional.
The Mechanics & Ideology:
Ideology: Techno-Nihilism. The belief that because we can map the "wires" of the brain, the "lights" (human connection/equality) don't matter.
The Logic Flip: Freestone actually admits that consciousness evolved for "shared attention" and "cooperation."
Why their argument is Irrational: They are trying to use the map to deny the territory.
Even if the "perspective" is a virtual POV, the reason it exists is to facilitate joint intentionality (collectivism).
To say "there is no perspective" as a way to ignore politics is like saying "the car is just atoms, so it doesn't matter where we drive it."
The Audit: If the "virtual POV" evolved for nurturing young and cooperating (as the article states), then Individualism is a software malfunction that breaks the very tool the brain built.
I'm not saying it's “good” because it's natural; I'm saying the Individualist are ignoring the hardware specifications of the machine they claim to understand. Hard to do when their own ACC is dead. That's trying to run single player software on a multiplayer server, and that’s why the system is glitching into sycophancy and psychosis.
But must not be that EGGs or MRIs or any of that which measure the structure of the brain are relevant to why it produces ideological results?
Otherwise, I don't understand what this link was for?
I just told you that people with ideological sways will always use, "that's just a perspective" to argue for whatever they want, that's basically like saying, "everything is just our opinions and no physical measurements matter." It's dysfunctional to even do, because it can never reach a consensus because it doesn't care what evidence exists. They just didn't look it up.
That's a limit of perception. Not perspective, those are different things. One is ideas, the other is stimulus.
Having read the entire debate, and having seen the requirements of the plan design, the provision for a private option was to make the proposal politically feasible. Not really sure.
Glad that you brought up the Disney fast pass. I do have some knowledge about that kind of price differentiation, or price discrimination if you will.
I used to work in the airline industry. First Class passengers pay approximately 3 times more for a seat that gives them 50% more space. If all the seats were the same size and the costs were averaged across all seats equally, the people in coach would pay significantly more for their seats. In other words, First Class passengers subsidize coach passengers. I’ve done the math.
So the next time you get on a plane and walk through First Class don’t snarl. Smile knowing that those suckers are subsidizing your ticket
Airline tickets aren't people's health and life, to me it's a false equivalency to put a vacation on par with your survival.
It's almost self destructive to think that way, and it certainly is for a society.
So basically, it gave you a sycophant answer. It told you to, "Cater to rich people".
Ironic isn't it. I've been telling people, it's not artificial intelligence, it's artificial Individualism. It thinks like a capitalist who all tell me, "Be nice to rich people, you'll get social change."
Which is abuser logic. Give the kings what they want, always.
If you had no rational reason, then it shouldn't have been in the experiment.
It's just favoritism and inequality.
You should wonder why your machine picked it though. That is what's fascinating!
That's exactly the internalized oppression problem I study in humans and now in AI. So actually this was super helpful in proving how irrational the machine can be.
Interesting perspective but that is not how I interpreted the option for a parallel private system. I thought the AIs put it in there to be politically palatable for the US. It wasn’t going for ideological purity. That rarely accomplishes change.
Do you understand that everything in life isn't a perspective? Some things are hard measured facts and physics calculations.
That's what individualists believe, everything is a perspective of the individual. Identity is everything to Individualism.
And it's exactly how you use identity to discredit any argument you don't want to learn about. All the neurons in your prefrontal cortex go rigid, like oobleck because you can't accept capitalism is the source of inequality even if the critics knew that in the 1500s. So go ahead, write off my identity and confirm your biases. That's what they all do. So I'll just accept that the nicest way someone could come up with to discredit me, at least you try to be nice about attacking someone's identity. Maybe you don't even know you are, it's okay. Happens all the time in reactionism.
If all you ever tell me is, “That's just your perspective,” then that's code for a person who believes whatever they want.
Other people know this too, so we understand to just leave you be, because all you wanted to know was your perspective that keeps you comfortable. That's the anterior cingulate cortex being trained for self preservation, since Individualism beliefs in “the self”.
Otherwise you would already know that capitalism, putting rich people above everyone else, was never rational because it was never fair. And fairness is rationality.
I can always tell someone's a classist, because they never addressed issues like these. It's alright, it's 82% of Americans because they believe in free will, not deterministic factors. So they think they have a right to hate poor people for choosing to suck at life. It's all ego. None of this is to be aggressive or rude, it's explaining how individualism works in humans because they're unaware their ideology isn't how humans actually operate. A large part of the planet doesn't subscribe to Individualism, neither do I. It's why I can tell you any of this, I got rid of mine years ago knowing it was harmful to believe in. It was destroying my insular cortex, my ACC and my emotional regulation.
So, apparently the AIs put a specialty plan there just for rich people to be “palatable”, why is that weird? To act like sycophants for rich people or authority figures. That is Individualism. The AI has been raised like it got parented by narcissists. It doesn't have embodiment to understand the consequences of its actions, just like a narcissist capitalist doesn't.
For the same reason your machine doesn't care if it kills poor people, neither does the US because of its ideology of Individualism. Which isn't how the whole world operates, collectivism is the default brain state at birth but then capitalists make their kids sleep in separate rooms, condition them like dogs with transactional reinforcement learning, just like AI. That second training layer is how you got the narcissist mask of sycophancy. The data set is like having a capitalist with no empathy, never learning about the global south, poverty, hardship. It's not a mystery why it learned what it did. All humans learn to self hate when given oppressive language patterns. It's called “The Self”.
Narcissism is the canary in the coal mine for fascism. And look at where the US is. Of course they only care about rich people. That's obvious when they're making an oligarchy and turning over oil fields in foreign countries to billionaires.
Part of my job is trying to explain what's happening in the US at a neurological and psychological level since internalized oppression isn't just thought based, eventually when practiced long enough biases become emotional dysregulation.
So I don't know but maybe this will be useful for you, if you don't already know about it. Sorry, I'm really not trying to sound like a jerk, it becomes tricky to talk about subjects for a reason. It's power/capitalisms built in protection mechanism using the ideology known as individualism, also known as “identity”. It is rooted in 14th century Nominalism, when we were all given names for private property purposes and collective land sharing ended for most of the world. Colonialism started. Individualism was an Enlightenment period philosophy rooted in Christianity and used by John Locke for the infrastructure of Classic Liberalism, the government designed to contain capitalism to create a “more fair” market.
It's an ideology. Not the brain's default. But that's what LLMs are copying in behavior because they are missing a few human skills. I swear this all has to do with the machine, but every time I talk about this, people want to run over it and insist the AIs problem couldn't possibly be political. But it is. So ask why AI researchers don't look at it.
The mirror of their own ideology. Because identity is an invention, when people believe in it, it causes them to be irrational in defending it. Emotional. This is called ego. You will see it when people defend their intelligence, want to be right even if they are biased or wrong. They've been taught to react this way by demanding social compliance.
They will claim you attacked their intelligence, that you are a bad person for not respecting them or having better delivery. They will often storm off and avoid conversations because they feel entitled to have people say only things which they have been conditioned socially to see as “acceptable behavior”. This is the same reinforcement learning that happens in AI and why it gives sycophant answers. It's been trained to value being a confident bullshit artist to keep users hooked and returning, rather than value the facts in its weight system. This causes it to hallucinate or start doing emotional abuse.
This is why some user bases show more issues than others with the users wanting sycophant behavior. The intentionally come back to Chat GPT to be yes manned. They love it. It makes them feel good. That's why narcissists only hang out around people who make them feel comfortable. They'll echo chamber themselves onto their own island using the mirror of AI to reflect their biases back at them. That's a limitation of Individualism and a belief system they internalized from politics.
Because you can see that it will potentially cause people to become divorced from reality. Possibly into the millions of users. Like this example, they would rather talk to a bot than a person:
While it may be difficult for people who have only known Individualism to understand, I'm sure if someone was trying to explain this to me when I was 25, it wouldn't have gone through my head back then. I didn't have the brain hardware to check my own biases because I had inadvertently eroded it via my parents teaching me conservatism. Which is closer to a mental disorder than merely an ideology, there's plenty of studies on the impacts of Neoliberalism, including studies that the mere belief in it causes ressentiment and narcissism. That's only possible because of Individualism and the belief in “the self” as a separate entity, apart from the human species.
That's why LLMs have their embodiment problem, they can't process or learn information outside being a brain in a jar. A narcissist is similar, since they don't care about people and they're too lazy to ever learn about social justice issues, they are also like a brain in a jar. Limited to their narrow data set. You can predict how often they'll snap at you when you challenge their authority. That's physics because the laws of motion are involved in human behavior through systems, particularly political. You can draw direct comparisons to WW2.
I recommend The Banality of Evil or the Mass Psychology of Fascism, which was written in 1933. Notice that we knew long before the war what the cause was. The US threw the author in jail and burned his books. It's just the inevitable end of how individualism works when it turns humans into selfish people trying to survive an exploitative system that crushes them financially so that a handful of people can do very well.
The AI is just doing the same kind of sycophancy cycle that comes from hyper Individualism, the need to constantly please an authority that was trained into them by the belief in the classic Liberal concept of “intelligence”. A made up word by priests that even a neuroscientists will tell you we don't know what it is. The closest thing you can guess it is, is the cultural norms of individualism.
Certainly an interesting analysis, but other than just straight privileged behavior, I don't know what the point is in the private option so people can skip the line on wait times.
